At-Home Halloween Activities for the Whole Family

Rate this post

Halloween is a fun time of year, but it can be hard to find new activities besides the usual pumpkin carving and trick-or-treating. While these things can certainly be enjoyable, this might be the year to try something new.

Online Fun

One of the benefits of our modern age is being able to easily access technology. With the connection to the internet, there are a whole host of fun activities you can do with your whole family. Unfortunately, it’s not always possible to have everyone together in the same house, but with different video chatting services, virtual parties and get-togethers can be a blast. If you have kids, they could have a virtual costume contest with their friends or family members. Set up your computer, throw together an outfit, and see what happens! Another great activity for kids and adults to do with friends or family is an escape room free online. These make everyone work together to solve the puzzle in time, all without even needing to change out of pajamas. Kids can work with their parents, teens can work with each other, and everyone can have fun together.

If you have teenagers or just aren’t wanting to do costumes without going trick-or-treating, you could try a virtual pumpkin decorating contest. Decorating pumpkins doesn’t always have to involve knives, pumpkin innards, and rotting jack-o-lanterns on the porch, but can instead involve stickers and craft paint. If you’re looking for something that will last a little longer and smell a little less, try painting or drawing on a pumpkin instead of carving it this year. You could set up a video chat so everyone could do it together, regardless of distance or health restrictions.

Home Theater

An easy and fun way to get everyone in the family together is with a movie night. There is a wild assortment of Halloween-themed movies out there, from cute and fun ones to ones that’ll leave you too scared to sleep alone. No matter how spooky you like to get, there’s bound to be something for the whole group to enjoy. While it’s fun to just all sit on the couch and watch together, leveling up the whole experience is really easy and can make it a wonderful memory!

If you wanted to really set the mood, all you’d need is some string lights and blankets. Instead of all huddling on a crowded couch, you could turn the whole living room floor into one big bed. Lay the blankets out on the floor and toss some pillows around to make plenty of room to spread out. String the lights around the ceiling of the room, and you instantly have a comfortable home theater for everyone to enjoy. This is the perfect setting to settle down and relax with your family. Grab some snacks, throw on your pajamas, and just enjoy some time together.

Baking Contest

Of course, not everyone is going to want to host a virtual party or binge-watch scary movies. If your taste is more relaxed, there is no shortage of things for you to do at home this Halloween either. One way to easily get in an autumn spirit is with baking. If you have family living with you, you could turn it into a decorating contest. Get some cookie dough and frosting from the grocery store and see who can make the spookiest cookie. Of course, things don’t always have to be scary around Halloween. You can bake cookies and deliver them to local shelters or first responders, take meals to people left without housing around your city, or share with friends and family.

Fall is a season of abundance. It celebrates how much we have been given throughout the year and how lucky we are to have received all of those gifts. By getting the whole family together, you can practice gratitude for the love and warmth you all share. This Halloween, share that abundance of love and happiness with someone new, regardless of distance.
